Welcome to all of you!
Finally, I would like to introduce the long-awaited blog: «Fast fashion-Mindfuck» is the personal motivation behind the book.
I have been working on the book and the contents for a few years now.
As this blog will be based on the topics I discuss with my clients here in the studio, it will depend a bit on what moves us at any given moment. I would like to invite you to write down your experiences and ideas and share them here. Fast fashion-Mindfuck is about understanding why the global textile industrial chain works the way it does and is as successful as it is. It is about becoming aware of how unconsciously everything affects us, and why it is good to be aware of where we are in relation to it.
The topics I address are the ones I discuss here every day in my tailor’s workshop with many clients interested in fashion.
As a tailor by training and active in the industry for more than 25 years, all topics are very important to me and I love the exchange with other people. So we will talk about everything the textile world has to offer: from fashion and fabrics, manufacturing processes, the amount of textile mass, annual consumption, manufacturing countries, etc. to disposal. Customers often feel the same way as I do. They have a great love for the creative and colourful side of fashion. The desire to wear beautiful clothes and to radiate pleasure in life is a strong argument that brings a lot of joy every day.
But there are also direct issues in the shadows that the hypocritical society does not want to say out loud and which, in turn, leave a feeling of unease. Often it can even be said that it confuses and disturbs the consumer. Especially on the issues of the treatment of humans and animals in the global industry.

The difficulty is that there is a lot of knowledge and data that consumers can find very difficult to obtain. Of course, this is an advantage for the industry itself.
Fashion: part of our social status symbol. Deeply rooted in culture. It expresses who we are. At least within a certain framework, it influences our status.
Fast fashion (The term is American and was established in the fashion of fast food – such as hamburger restaurants etc.). Fast food restaurants have introduced the term as an integral part of the vernacular. In the similarly functioning textile industry, «fast fashion» was put into circulation by rather critical people as a descriptive collective term). Fast Fashion has been able to globalise wonderfully because it is produced at incredibly low costs and can therefore be sold cheaply, and is thus easily within the reach of most customers. At this point, it seems that for most people it is completely «OK» that this is the case. The main thing is that it is cheap.

Thanks to cheap production and the resulting huge profits for fashion producers, it also enables large-scale advertising. Everywhere (posters, television, cinema, etc.) the eye is spoiled with design and fashion. With this advertising and the constant presentation of the latest fashion, a need is awakened in the consumer.
Unconsciously, of course, but as it represents our status in society, it may actually be a deeper need than previously thought.
And here we are at the point where I mentioned earlier that it is somewhat hypocritical.
This industry spends an insane amount of money on promotion. And it doesn’t let you look behind the scenes. The glitzy and beautiful world of excess that produces supermodels and superstars makes us forget about the real image and also the real reason for this production that often makes life suffer.
We love FASHION… the phenomenon of clothing and its deep-rooted cultural and individual expression, from social status quo, age and gender to corporate ranking or religious expression. Fast-Fashion Mindfuck. It deals with the connections between consumers and the textile chain (a shorthand way of describing the whole production network). From the literature, anyone can get a basic idea of what exactly goes on behind the scenes in the textile world.
- Fashion is art.
- Fashion is culture.
- Fashion is an expression of life.
And a fascinating technical achievement of our species in the development of society.
From bearskin to silk lingerie.
